US approves $5bn PATRIOT and APKWS systems sale to Qatar
The U.S. State Department has approved a $5 billion Foreign Military Sale to Qatar covering PATRIOT air defense systems and Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System (APKWS) guided rockets. The package is among the largest FMS approvals in the Gulf region in recent years, reflecting Qatar's drive to strengthen layered air and missile defense. PATRIOT will reinforce Qatar's strategic deterrence while APKWS extends precision strike capability to rotary-wing platforms. Congressional notification has been filed, initiating the formal approval process.
