Royal Marines Drill GIUK Gap Boardings in Faroe Islands, First Since WWII
Royal Marines trained in the Faroe Islands during Lion Protector 26, in the first British marine deployment there since the Second World War, the Royal Navy announced on October 2. The exercise involved Danish and Faroese partners and an approximately 150-person Special Operations Maritime Task Group comprising boarding teams, boat operators, aircrew and support personnel. Training included maritime interdiction, vessel boardings, cliff ascents, observation posts and coastal raids, with 42 Commando providing the core maritime force. The activity forms part of Joint Expeditionary Force training from August 3 to October 12 across the Greenland–Iceland–United Kingdom maritime approaches.
