Saab Signs Gripen E Engine Deal to Boost Sweden's Own Expertise
Saab and GKN Aerospace signed a cooperation agreement on October 8 covering engine and propulsion systems for the Gripen E/F fighter. The arrangement follows a Swedish government decision to strengthen national expertise on the RM16, Sweden's designation for the GE Aerospace F414G engine powering the aircraft. GKN will progressively increase its role by providing technical support, capacity and propulsion expertise as Saab develops the partnership. The agreement extends cooperation already established on Gripen C/D engines, while establishing a framework for Swedish support capability on the newer fighter rather than announcing a replacement engine or new aircraft order.
