U.S. Army Selects Ballistic-Protected Humanoid Robot for High-Risk Battlefield Mission Experiments
The US Army selected the Florida Institute for Human and Machine Cognition's Alex humanoid as one of the winners of its xTechHumanoid competition for further experimentation. Alex combines impact-resilient actuators, protective features, and hybrid human-machine control intended to explore dangerous tasks such as urban entry, reconnaissance, or work under fire. The decision funds evaluation and mission experiments rather than fielding a combat unit, and the Army has not announced production quantities or an operational deployment date. Successful trials would still require safety validation, reliable communications, doctrine, and evidence that the machine improves mission outcomes.
