Indonesia's First Aircraft Carrier: Former Italian Ship 'Garibaldi' Reaches Domestic Waters
The former Italian aircraft carrier Giuseppe Garibaldi reached Indonesian waters as Jakarta moves to introduce its first carrier-type warship. The transfer gives Indonesia a large aviation-capable platform with substantial space for command, training, logistics, and potential helicopter or uncrewed-aircraft operations. Arrival in domestic waters is only one step toward useful service, since refurbishment, certification, crewing, basing, and definition of the ship's final mission remain necessary.
