Update: South Korea fields K17 special operations weapon
The Republic of Korea Army has begun fielding the domestically developed K17 5.56 mm weapon for special-operations personnel. It replaces the K1A carbine after roughly 45 years and adds an adjustable stock, detachable box magazine and multiple accessory rails suited to modern sights and mission equipment. The introduction reflects a targeted modernization of close-combat weapons rather than a change to the army's standard infantry rifle.
