North Korea planted mines that hit South Korean troops

South Korea's military and the United Nations Command concluded that North Korean antipersonnel mines deliberately placed south of the Military Demarcation Line wounded three South Korean soldiers on September 21. Investigators identified resin-bodied mines, matched fragments with a previously recovered North Korean design and reported that two devices detonated in the western Demilitarized Zone. South Korean personnel destroyed the remaining mines on October 5, while the UN Command characterized the emplacement as a violation of the 1953 armistice. Two soldiers were seriously injured, and the findings prompted domestic criticism of President Lee Jae Myung's earlier description of the blast as an accident.
