US accepts Taiwan's preliminary request for up to 20 MH-60R Seahawk helicopters to counter Chinese submarines
The United States accepted Taiwan’s preliminary request for pricing and availability information covering up to 20 MH-60R Seahawk anti-submarine warfare helicopters, according to Taiwanese reporting. Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defense authorized the proposal on October 1, 2026, reviving the previously shelved Shenying III effort and increasing the possible quantity from an earlier 12-aircraft concept. The helicopters would replace Taiwan’s ageing S-70C(M) fleet and strengthen shipborne submarine detection and attack capacity. The request has not yet become a final U.S. sale approval or Letter of Offer and Acceptance, and no value or delivery schedule has been announced.
