Boeing says Link 16 software test advances plans for Super Hornet crews to control MQ-25A Stingray tankers and extend mission reach
Boeing has flight-tested Link 16 software intended to let Super Hornet crews command MQ-25A Stingray tankers, advancing the Navy’s plans for teaming between crewed and uncrewed aircraft. The demonstration took place during Emerald Flag at Eglin Air Force Base using a Beechcraft 1900D and an E90 King Air as surrogate platforms. The software supports command and control through an open architecture, with Boeing’s Phantom Works, MQ-25, F/A-18 and F-22 teams participating in the effort. The flights validated the communications approach ahead of integration with operational aircraft, rather than demonstrating an MQ-25 controlled in flight by a Super Hornet.
