France Seals Madagascar Drone Donation Amid Russian Arms Deliveries
France has transferred a thermal-imaging surveillance drone valued at no less than €150,000 to Madagascar following defense talks in Antananarivo in October 2026. French Defense Minister Catherine Vautrin formalized the donation, with eight Malagasy personnel due to be trained to operate and maintain the system and an endurance reported to exceed two hours. France also outlined plans for additional surveillance and logistics drones and a second longer-range aircraft by January 2027, alongside arrangements for military training cooperation. The immediate transfer is a donation rather than a commercial arms contract; the equipment's precise model and the technical specifications of the proposed follow-on systems were not announced.
