European Defence Agency says 15 EU countries agree military space data mechanism worth around €50 million with capability targeted for 2029
Fifteen EU countries agreed on September 25, 2026, to establish an EDA-managed military space-data mechanism initially estimated at around €50 million. The project will pool access to information on orbital objects and activity, giving participating militaries a shared space picture to support satellite protection and collision avoidance. EDA plans a non-binding, pay-as-you-go framework drawing on its satellite-communications procurement experience, with a supplier survey due to conclude in December. A programme arrangement is targeted for 2027–2028, followed by a framework contract and initial operating capability in early 2029; additional EU states may join.
