German Parliament Greenlights Naval IRIS-T, Amraam Deals
Germany's parliamentary budget committee approved additional AIM-120 AMRAAM purchases and the adaptation of Diehl's ground-launched IRIS-T SLM missile for naval use aboard F125 frigates. The AMRAAM lots are intended for German F-35A and Eurofighter aircraft, while the naval IRIS-T work would give the frigates a modern short-to-medium-range air-defense option. Lawmakers also cleared related defense purchases, including Meteor missiles, 70 mm rockets, and NH90 simulator upgrades, reflecting a broader effort to replenish stocks and improve interoperability across Germany's air and maritime forces during future coalition operations.
