U.S. Navy buys more 30mm guns to shoot down drones
The U.S. Navy awarded MSI Defence Systems US a $197 million sole-source firm-fixed-price contract for MK88 MOD4 30 mm gun mounts, MK48 MOD2 electro-optical sights, related hardware and spares. Together with an operator console, the mount and sight form the MK 38 MOD 4 gun weapon system, which is intended to improve ship defence against small drones and fast attack craft. The Department of War did not disclose how many systems are being purchased. Most work will take place in Norfolk, England, and deliveries are scheduled to be completed by January 2031.
