Lockheed Martin unveils PAC-3 Edge to take on hypersonic threats, eyes U.S. Army deployment by 2031
Lockheed Martin unveiled PAC-3 Edge, an evolution of the PAC-3 Missile Segment Enhancement interceptor developed for the U.S. Army’s Future Interceptor competition. The design incorporates a new seeker developed by Lockheed Martin’s Strigo Product Center, a Northrop Grumman multi-pulse solid rocket motor and revised control features intended to increase defended range and altitude against advanced ballistic and hypersonic threats. Lockheed Martin says testing is planned from 2027 and is targeting rapid deployment around 2031, subject to Army decisions and successful development. PAC-3 Edge is designed to remain compatible with IBCS and existing or containerized launcher architectures rather than requiring an entirely new air-defence system.
