Can China's new satellite coordination standards speed up PLA targeting?
A Chinese expert panel approved work on ten voluntary standards intended to improve coordination among satellites, constellations, ground systems, and data users. More consistent interfaces and tasking procedures could shorten the time between collecting imagery or other observations and delivering usable targeting information, while also improving resilience across distributed networks. The standards are still moving through drafting and consultation, however, and their potential military benefit does not prove that the PLA has already fielded the complete architecture. Whether the effort changes real targeting speed will depend on adoption, technical implementation, and integration with command networks.
