US Air Force to stand up point defense career field within 2 years, Wilsbach says
Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. Kenneth Wilsbach says the service plans to establish a dedicated point-defence career field within two years. The Air Force has already identified two senior master sergeants as initial field managers and intends to build specialised units from several existing occupational specialties. Their mission will combine kinetic and non-kinetic systems to defend bases against drones, missiles and other short-range threats. The initiative responds to lessons from recent attacks on deployed forces, but training standards, unit structure and the final weapon mix are still under development.
