RAF Typhoon Combat Missions Over Iraq End as Coalition Leaves Erbil
The Royal Air Force confirmed on October 4, 2026, that Typhoon combat operations over Iraq have ended following the September 30 conclusion of the coalition's military mission and departure from Erbil Air Base. Operation Shader continues, while Britain plans a bilateral defense partnership with Iraq covering counterterrorism, military education, capability development and defense-industrial cooperation. During the campaign, Typhoon matured into a multirole strike aircraft using Paveway IV bombs, Brimstone missiles and Storm Shadow cruise missiles. RAF aircraft struck more than 2,300 Daesh targets across the campaign, with Iraqi forces now assuming primary responsibility for security.
