Hanwha Ocean to Conduct ROK Navy's First Outsourced Destroyer Overhaul
Hanwha Ocean has received a contract to overhaul ROKS Sejong the Great, marking the Republic of Korea Navy's first outsourced depot-level maintenance project for a surface combatant. Shifting this work to a commercial shipyard is intended to use private industrial capacity, improve maintenance throughput, and reduce pressure on naval facilities while sustaining a complex Aegis-equipped destroyer. The award could establish a model for additional outsourced maintenance, but its immediate scope concerns one ship and does not by itself transfer all major warship overhaul work from the navy to industry.
