Northrop Grumman says 50mm projectile flight test advances Raid Hunter gun-based air defense system against mass aerial threats
Northrop Grumman has completed an aeroballistic flight test of a new 50 mm projectile for its Raid Hunter gun-based short-range air-defense system. The weapon is intended to offer a lower-cost way to defeat large numbers of drones and other aerial threats, complementing missiles whose price and magazine depth can make them unsuitable for sustained attacks. The trial advances projectile and system development by collecting performance data, but it does not represent operational qualification or fielding; additional testing must validate accuracy, fuzing, sensors, fire control, and reliability against representative targets.
