MBDA Offers SM39 Block 2 Mod 2 for Indonesia’s Scorpène Submarines
MBDA offered SM39 Block 2 Mod 2 Exocet missiles for Indonesia's two Scorpène Evolved submarines during the Euronaval press tour, with an order expected in early 2027. The submarine contract already includes SM39 launch capability, while boat deliveries are scheduled for 2032 and 2033. MBDA favors the currently produced SM39 because the next-generation SM40 remains in development and might not meet that schedule. Both missiles fit standard 533-millimeter torpedo tubes and use the same storage and launch capsule, allowing a later SM40 upgrade, but the missile offer is not yet a confirmed purchase.
