An SR-71 Blackbird Has Vanished (Updated)
SR-71 tail number 844, the last Blackbird produced and the last one to fly, is no longer visible at its long-time display location at NASA's Armstrong Flight Research Center, with satellite imagery indicating it has been absent since at least May 17. Aviation Week sources cited by TWZ suggest the aircraft was moved into a hangar earlier in the year for an inspection, but its current disposition has not been officially disclosed. The timing has fueled speculation because NASA recently highlighted plans for new high-speed X-planes, but NASA has provided no confirmation that the aircraft is involved in a return-to-flight or research program.
