US Navy awards HII contract for AUKUS engineering and design work
The US Navy awarded HII's Newport News Shipbuilding a $56 million engineering and design contract supporting the AUKUS submarine partnership, with an option increasing its potential value to $91 million. Under the Foreign Military Sales portion, the division will provide Britain and Australia with technology insertion, engineering, supply-chain development, workforce support and digital transformation assistance. A separate US industry support effort assigns Newport News engineers and designers to the future SSN-AUKUS nuclear-powered attack submarine. Announced by HII on October 13, the award supports design and industrial preparation for submarines to be built in Britain and Australia, rather than submarine construction itself.
