U.S. Navy, Coast Guard buys new Saab radars
The US Navy awarded Saab a $51.5 million contract modification to continue production of Sea Giraffe Multi-Mode Radars for naval and Coast Guard platforms. The three-dimensional electronically scanned sensor can track air and surface targets, including small aircraft and fast-moving threats, while supporting ship self-defence and surveillance. The order sustains an established production line and supports installation on Offshore Patrol Cutters and other users. Continued deliveries improve fleet commonality, but each platform still requires combat-system integration, testing, training, and maintenance support before the radar contributes fully to operational readiness.
