Japan Orders Ukraine's SkyFall Interceptor Drones and Eyes Early Delivery
Japan has contracted Ukrainian manufacturer SkyFall for interceptor drones as it seeks to strengthen defenses against hostile unmanned aircraft. Japanese defense officials confirmed the procurement on October 9, 2026, and indicated interest in receiving initial equipment quickly, building on Ukraine's experience developing low-cost aerial interceptors. The purchase concerns a counter-drone capability rather than an agreement to acquire conventional strike aircraft, but officials have not disclosed the exact model, quantity, price or firm delivery schedule. Integration, operator training and evaluation arrangements will determine how the imported systems fit into Japan's developing layered protection of military installations and other defended sites.
