U.S. Marines Field Tempest Counter-UAS Vehicle for Mobile Protection Against Drone Threats
The US Marine Corps began fielding the Tempest counter-unmanned-aircraft vehicle to give maneuver units a mobile defense against small drones. The platform brings detection, tracking and defeat functions onto a tactical vehicle that can move with forces rather than relying exclusively on fixed-site protection. It addresses the growing need to counter inexpensive reconnaissance and attack aircraft near dispersed positions. Public reporting does not provide a complete sensor and effector configuration, fleet quantity or deployment schedule, so operational performance and coverage should not be inferred from the fielding announcement alone.
