Australia puts its Tigers out to pasture
The Australian Army retired its remaining Tiger Armed Reconnaissance Helicopters after a final flypast over Darwin on September 24, ending more than two decades of service. The withdrawal follows longstanding availability and sustainment problems and clears the way for the Army's transition to the AH-64E Apache Guardian, which Australia selected as its replacement attack helicopter. Training, facilities, and aircraft deliveries for the Apache fleet are progressing, but the retirement still requires careful management of personnel and readiness until the new type is fully established in operational units.
