Russian Rostec Claims 30mm Tsitadel Anti-Drone Gun Beats Skynex and Phalanx
Rostec is promoting the 30 mm ZAK-30 Tsitadel counter-drone gun as an alternative to Rheinmetall Skynex and US Phalanx systems, claiming advantages in automation and engagement cost. The system combines radar and electro-optical sensing with programmable airburst ammunition intended to disperse fragments near small unmanned aircraft. Rostec says thermal imaging supports day-and-night operation, that the gun can integrate into layered defenses of stationary sites and that it has been used in combat in Ukraine. The comparisons with Western systems remain manufacturer assertions, with no independently published comparative testing or engagement data demonstrating superior performance against equivalent targets.
