British commandos land from German submarine to direct allied naval gunfire in largest UK Commando Force test in 15 years
British commandos landed from a German attack submarine at Cape Wrath during Strike Warrior and directed naval gunfire from the Portuguese frigate NRP Dom Francisco de Almeida. Personnel from 148 Battery used inflatable boats to reach shore and established a clifftop observation position for allied fire support. The operation formed part of the largest exercise involving all elements of the UK Commando Force in 15 years, with more than 2,000 participants from six countries. Forces from Britain, the Netherlands, Canada, Germany, Norway and the United States rehearsed crisis response across Scotland for High North and North Atlantic operations.
