US Navy's USS Pinckney destroyer enters second major upgrade period following NASSCO $149 million award
The US Navy awarded General Dynamics NASSCO $149.6 million for a 24-month Chief of Naval Operations availability on USS Pinckney in San Diego, running through September 2028. This second modernization phase is expected to integrate the AN/SPY-6(V)4 radar, corresponding Aegis combat-system upgrades and other maintenance after an earlier electronic-warfare enhancement. Contract options could lift the value to about $149.9 million if exercised. The award covers shipyard integration and overhaul work on the destroyer, not the stand-alone purchase price of the radar or a new ship.
