Ukraine Selects Jet Shahed Interceptor Prototypes as Kill Rate Lags at 57%
Ukraine has selected the most promising prototypes from field tests of four interceptors designed to counter Russia's faster jet-powered Shahed and Geran drones. Officials are fast-tracking development because existing defenses were reportedly destroying only about 57 percent of the jet variants, well below Kyiv's desired performance. The program emphasizes speed, rapid climb, optical or thermal guidance and affordable production at scale, but the selected designs and contract terms have not been fully disclosed as Ukrainian manufacturers race to turn prototypes into deployable systems. Kyiv ultimately seeks a substantially higher interception rate against them.
