Patria and BELMA sign MoU to develop unmanned minelayer

Patria and BELMA signed a memorandum of understanding to develop an unmanned system for laying land mines. The concept would combine a robotic carrier with mine-handling expertise, allowing forces to create obstacles while reducing direct exposure of personnel to enemy fire. Automation could also improve placement accuracy, recording, and integration with command systems, supporting responsible marking and later clearance. The memorandum begins joint development rather than confirming a procurement order or operational product, and the partners must still resolve payload, mobility, safety, legal compliance, communications, and customer requirements.
