V-22 Osprey safety upgrade moves towards wider fleet installation under $35.5 million deal
Bell Boeing received a $35.5 million order to supply 73 additional Onboard Diagnostic System Safety Health Indicator kits for V-22 Ospreys operated by the United States and Japan. The upgrade supports NAVAIR’s move toward fleet-wide predictive monitoring of the tiltrotor’s drive system, using additional data to identify emerging mechanical problems before they become critical. Expanding installation across variants should improve maintenance planning, aircraft availability and operational risk management across a demanding fleet as the services address reliability and safety concerns highlighted by previous mishaps.
