U.S. Army Taps GD to Prototype Autonomous Networked Obstacle Munitions
The U.S. Army selected General Dynamics to prototype a networked anti-vehicle obstacle munition that can be remotely controlled as part of a distributed defensive field. The concept is intended to engage armored vehicles while allowing operators to activate, deactivate and potentially recover unfired munitions, reducing exposure for soldiers who would otherwise manage conventional obstacles in contested terrain. The prototype supports the Army's broader move toward common, command-linked terrain-shaping weapons, but the award remains a development step and does not yet represent a production decision or fielded autonomous mine system.
