Australian industry programme builds pipeline for Virginia-class sustainment
The Australian Submarine Agency opened a qualification pathway enabling domestic companies to bid for work sustaining U.S. Virginia-class submarines in Western Australia. The programme is intended to build certified suppliers, skilled workers and maintenance experience before Submarine Rotational Force-West begins operating from HMAS Stirling as early as 2027 and Australia receives used Virginia-class boats in the early 2030s. It complements infrastructure development at the nearby Henderson Defence Precinct and overseas workforce placements supporting nuclear-submarine maintenance. The initiative creates access to future work but does not itself award contracts, specify participating companies or guarantee volumes to individual suppliers.
