Vessels installed as targets at UK weapons range
Two former commercial marine vessels have been installed as military targets at Holbeach Air Weapons Range in Lincolnshire for fixed-wing and helicopter training. The steel craft were moved by sea from the River Crouch in Essex, positioned with specialist Dutch tug support and adapted for use during both live and inert weapons sorties. One vessel will form part of the range's Target 10 development, adding a maritime-style aim point for crews preparing for operational deployments. The Defence Infrastructure Organisation delivered the project with Landmarc and construction and marine contractor Topbond PLC.
