European MALE RPAS — the Airbus-led medium-altitude long-endurance unmanned aircraft programme for France, Germany, Italy, and Spain.
The European Medium-Altitude Long-Endurance Remotely Piloted Aircraft System — Eurodrone — is the OCCAR-managed programme to give France, Germany, Italy, and Spain a sovereign MALE drone. Airbus Defence and Space leads the consortium with Dassault and Leonardo, and the contract was signed in February 2022. The twin-turboprop platform is sized for ISR, communications relay, and weapons delivery in non-permissive airspace, with first flight initially planned for 2027 and entry into service by the end of the decade. The programme is the European answer to long-standing dependence on U.S. MQ-9 Reaper and Israeli Heron-TP fleets.
