Israeli air defense — Iron Dome, David's Sling, Arrow, and the layered counter-rocket and missile interceptor architecture.

0 articles indexed

Israel's air defense is structured as four overlapping layers, of which Iron Dome is only the lowest. Designed by Rafael with U.S. funding, Iron Dome intercepts short-range rockets and artillery up to roughly 70 km using the Tamir interceptor. David's Sling, a Rafael–Raytheon collaboration, covers medium-range ballistic and cruise threats. The Arrow 2 and Arrow 3 systems, built with IAI and Boeing, defeat long-range and exo-atmospheric ballistic missiles — Arrow 3 made its first operational interception in late 2023. The architecture has been continuously battle-tested since October 2023 against Hamas, Hezbollah, Houthi, and Iranian fires, driving rapid iteration.
