BAE Systems Australia and Canadian partner TerraSense put AI targeting for ATLAS uncrewed vehicle through demanding field trials

BAE Systems Australia and Canada’s TerraSense have field-tested the Archimedes AI-enabled target classification system on the ATLAS Collaborative Combat Variant uncrewed ground vehicle. The trial evaluated passive detection, tracking, situational awareness and unmanned-aircraft identification, while engineers remotely corrected a software problem affecting target thumbnails during the event. The demonstration shows how rapid software updates can support experimentation on robotic combat platforms throughout the exercise, but ATLAS remains a prototype and the activity did not authorize autonomous weapon use; human operators retained responsibility for engagement decisions.
