BlackSky captures first imagery from fifth Gen-3 satellite within 20 hours, expanding 35-centimeter defense intelligence capacity

BlackSky obtained imagery from its fifth Gen-3 satellite less than 20 hours after launch, demonstrating rapid commissioning for time-sensitive intelligence work. The first published scene, collected over Nanning on September 11, showed Chinese H-6 bombers at a claimed 35-centimetre resolution. Gen-3 spacecraft operate alongside BlackSky’s Gen-2 constellation through the Spectra tasking and analytics platform, increasing revisit opportunities, collection capacity and resilience. The company says each new satellite costs about one-fifth as much as its legacy design and plans additional launches before the end of 2026.
