Boeing’s F/A-XX Win Leads Broader Carrier Air Wing Renewal
The US Navy has selected Boeing to develop F/A-XX, its next-generation carrier-based fighter, under a multibillion-dollar program intended to replace the Super Hornet in the 2030s. Boeing’s September 29 announcement describes a sixth-generation aircraft with an open mission architecture designed to accommodate future capabilities. A published concept depicts a twin-engine flying-wing configuration without apparent vertical tails, although detailed technical specifications and much of the program remain classified. The award places Boeing at the center of carrier aviation renewal and gives it a second sixth-generation fighter development effort alongside the Air Force’s F-47 program.
