Rheinmetall’s GMF 140 is a proposed 140-metre, roughly 6,000-tonne guided-missile frigate aimed initially at an unspecified North American competition. The design combines Aegis-compatible combat systems and U.S.-sourced radar options with 64 strike-length vertical-launch cells, a five-inch gun, anti-ship missiles and hull-mounted and towed sonars. A 30-knot target speed, core crew of about 90 and open architecture are intended to balance missile capacity, interoperability and operating cost.
