NATO Innovation Continuum Tests Arctic Surveillance Airship in Canada
NATO's Innovation Continuum demonstrated a Kelluu surveillance airship during SHINE 2026 at COVE in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, as part of work on Arctic surveillance. The Finnish aircraft remained airborne for much of the day and operated alongside Canadian and Icelandic technologies in the water to demonstrate surveying and target detection. Kelluu develops autonomous, hydrogen-powered airships for persistent sensing below cloud level, including operation in Arctic and satellite-navigation-denied conditions. The October 5–9 event brought military users and technology developers together for operational experimentation, assessing integration and limitations without announcing a NATO acquisition or deployment contract.
