Taiwan sets up US-backed cyber unit to hunt hidden military threats

Taiwan's military plans a US-supported cyber threat-hunting unit intended to find concealed intruders, persistence mechanisms and back doors inside defence networks. The proposed 2027 budget assigns NT$95.93 million, about $3 million, for the team and for foreign specialists or instructors working with the Information, Communications and Electronic Force Command. The initiative shifts emphasis from reactive incident handling toward continuous searches for undetected compromise. Funding is proposed rather than fully executed, and officials have not identified the external partner, unit size, operational methods, systems covered or timetable for reaching full capability.
