U.S. Navy Strengthens Warship Defenses Against Anti-Ship Missiles With Electronic Warfare Systems

The US Navy awarded Lockheed Martin a $208.96 million contract modification for additional AN/SLQ-32(V)6 Surface Electronic Warfare Improvement Program Block 2 equipment. The upgrade equips warships with improved electronic-support receivers and antennas to detect, identify and track hostile radar emissions, including those associated with anti-ship missile threats. Contract work is scheduled through September 2029, with major production activity in Liverpool, New York, and Lansdale, Pennsylvania, while the broader contractual ceiling could reach approximately $1.71 billion if options are exercised. Block 2 principally improves passive electronic surveillance and warning, rather than introducing a standalone active-jamming weapon.
