UK contracts Airbus to increase A400M availability
The UK Ministry of Defence awarded Airbus a £190 million extension to support the Royal Air Force’s 22 A400M transport aircraft for 31 months, through April 2029. The agreement is intended to raise the average number available each day from 10 to 13 by the end of 2027 through maintenance, engineering, spares, and availability improvements. Increasing serviceability by roughly one third would expand airlift capacity without buying additional aircraft. Performance will depend on execution of the support plan and the fleet’s operational demands, rather than the contract value alone.
