U.S. Air Force ends five-decade A-10 era at Davis-Monthan with inactivation of final Thunderbolt II operational and training units

The U.S. Air Force inactivated four A-10 organizations at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base on September 18, ending the aircraft's nearly five-decade presence there. The affected units included the 355th Operations Group, 357th Fighter Squadron, 357th Fighter Generation Squadron, and 355th Training Squadron. Their closure ends local A-10 operations and formal pilot training as the service continues retiring the Thunderbolt II fleet. The action does not mean every A-10 has left Air Force service immediately, because aircraft and units at other installations remain subject to their own drawdown schedules.
