NORAD deployed US F-16s from Alaska through Canada toward Greenland during Operation Arctic Vanguard 26-4.2, testing rapid movement and air defence across the northern approaches. The fighters operated through Goose Bay alongside Canadian and other allied elements, exercising command relationships, refuelling, sustainment, and dispersed basing. Arctic distances, weather, communications, and limited infrastructure make such deployments unusually demanding. The exercise demonstrated how North American and NATO forces could reinforce the region quickly, but it was a readiness activity rather than evidence of a permanent fighter presence in Greenland.
