MOD details fate of nine removed Chinook helicopters
The Ministry of Defence accounted for nine Chinook helicopters removed from Britain’s reported fleet between 2024 and 2026. Three airframes remain in defense ownership for training and heritage, five are being disposed of under existing policy, and one is retained as a source of structural spares. The breakdown explains the statistical reduction without implying that every aircraft immediately left military use. Recovering components from the spare airframe can help sustain the remaining heavy-lift fleet, while disposal of the other five permanently reduces the reported inventory.
