U.S. Department of War announces $350 million in quantum computing initiatives to validate systems and support manufacturing
The US Department of War announced approximately $350 million in initiatives to assess scalable quantum computers and strengthen domestic manufacturing of quantum hardware. The package includes about $200 million in DARPA support for four companies advancing through the Quantum Benchmarking Initiative's Stage C technical evaluations, alongside a conditional $150 million loan for PsiQuantum. The loan is intended to support US-based semiconductor and photonic manufacturing infrastructure associated with the company's quantum-computing development program. Additional technical workshops with national laboratories and other agencies are planned before January 2027, but the investments do not signify delivery of an operational military quantum computer.
