Honeywell unveils F-35 cooling upgrade with 25% near-term boost and pathway to more than 62 kilowatts for future systems
Honeywell has unveiled a P40 upgrade for the F-35 Power and Thermal Management System that raises cooling capacity from 32 to 40 kilowatts, a 25 percent near-term increase. The package relies on software and liquid-cooling improvements, requires no structural airframe changes and could be installed during scheduled maintenance alongside the Engine Core Upgrade from 2029 or 2030. Honeywell also outlined a development path to more than 62 kilowatts for future mission systems. Based on fleet data, the company projects the P40 configuration could also reduce Honeywell-attributable, non-resettable in-flight shutdowns by about 30 percent.
